Letter From The Chiefs / Volume 3.1

Our third year as ASFM’s student outlet presents many new changes. Through our two years of experience, our initial vision has broadened and evolved. This year more than ever, we start to think of El 107 as more than just a magazine. With a strong emphasis on digital content and our goal to reach new corners of the ASFM community, El 107 continues to grow into something much grander than originally anticipated. The progression of our publication has garnered a lot of internal developments. Due to the growing responsibilities and work of the Editor in Chief, this is the first year El 107 has divided the role into two, Chief Director and Chief Editor. As such, we will work together and use our personal strengths to complement one another and create the best possible 107.

Our third volume welcomes new ideas and developments. We continue to expand our digital brand with the introduction of Humans of ASFM, a bi-weekly article profiling diverse people from all areas of ASFM; with a goal to spotlight interesting faces and for our community to grow stronger. Our Canal 107 Team will regularly produce a large variety of accessible videos that range in topics, genres, and length. Our Instagram page and website will be given a high amount of priority, with regular posting and new cohesive designs. Eagles Landing, our collaboration with Student Council, will act as a one-stop hub of information for High School students.

On print, our magazine will continue to expand. Our jump to 24 pages will make room for new columns and sections. We will also continue to encourage guest writers to contribute to our magazine, with at least one external article per issue. Like our website, our magazine has received a fresh new look, with a completely different design team.

This is, for many, our last fresh start in ASFM. As both seniors and chiefs, our mission this year is to leave behind something that we are proud of. Three years in, this is also the last year for the few remaining original members of the 107 team. Although all original members will have graduated in ten months, the legacy that we will leave behind will continue to grow. We will stay true to our purpose in order to provide voice and expression for the ASFM community and make every issue worth reading.
