In six weeks, eight students from 9th to 12th grade managed to build a 55 kg robot from scratch and confronted, face to face, one of the most daunting robotics competition.

The Robotic Eagles FRC team represented ASFM in the national championship that took place in Torreón where 43 teams battled for a pass to the finals.

“It was much more than just building robots,” explained 12th grader Delio Pérez, since an approximate of 100 hours was put into the project to produce a full-size robot with eight motors, a program written in Java, and an electronic system that became the brain and heart.

With five wins and six losses, the team ended in 31st place, which didn’t let them advance to the playoffs; a good start considering it was their first time in the competition.

The group that traveled to compete consisted of five members since two could not attend, while the average group size was of 35.

The members of the FRC team are Isabella Zenkl, Delio Pérez, and Eugenio Guzmán from 12th grade; Alejandro González from 11th grade; Midhun Sree, Santiago López and Sofía López from 10th; Isabel Fernández from 9th, and advisor Mr. Gabe Massine.
