El Choque
On October 3rd, near the end of the day, word spread quickly about an accident that occurred on the way towards the right-hand exit inside the school, close to Morones Prieto. What was being said by students, parents, and staff, though, was not true- they were only rumors.
After interviewing Dr. Lucero Espino, (MSHS doctor), she began by clarifying what actually caused the accident. “There was a rumor that she had fainted, but it’s not true,” said Dr. Espino. “The reason she crashed was that she was distracted”.
The other uncertainty students had was the location of the crash site. Lucero mentioned that it was on the downhill curve in the parking lot, where only the base of a pole remained. Someone had once crashed into it and knocked the pole over, so only the stump (bottom part) of the would-be pole remained. The car veered to the right, and the wheels went over the stump, so the vehicle flipped over. She talked about the driver’s physical state; “She came out injured. She got whiplash injuries, bruises, and scrapes. Luckily, she wasn’t going too fast, so her injuries weren’t as severe”.
Now, to answer one of the most-asked questions: who was she? According to Dr. Espino’s comments, JanKing (the school’s janitorial service) has a doctor that comes and checks the janitorial staff once a week, on Thursdays, from 12-2. She was leaving her shift when the accident happened. Lucero gave one final warning: “This is proof of the awful things that could happen when you’re distracted while behind the wheel. You have to drive safely”.
