Colombia
On March 5th, 14 MUN students composed mostly of 10th graders arrived at Bogotá, Colombia to a prestigious simulation hosted by Harvard: HACIA Democracy.
Unfortunately, ASFM delegates did not bring back any awards this time, due to the competitiveness of the simulation. But they still did an exceptional job, according to their testimonies. “Yes, awards are important but it is more significantly is to get something positive from the experience, to know that you participated and tried your best. Those are questions you need to answer individually!” MUN advisor Ms. Aguilar told her students.
Ms. Andrea Fossum also also said she was “proud of their engagement and excited for their participation in future simulations.”
During the few days in Bogotá, the group visited the Museum of Gold, one of the most popular attractions. They also went to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, “a very exotic place”, as described by some. The attraction everyone enjoyed the most was a scenic view, a mirador where all the city could be seen, which proved to be a perfect landscape to take pictures.
The next stop was Cartagena, where the simulation took place. They were introduced with a session explaining the procedures of the event, followed by debate. For three days, delegates from all Latin America debated on world issues, and worked to find solutions for them. “The simulation was very fun and intriguing, but of course, nothing compared to IMMUNS,” 10th grader Eugenia Rodríguez said.
