Beyond ASFM
With less than a month left in school, numerous senior activities, and time capsule letters to write, I have yet to stop and wonder what will happen once I leave the halls of ASFM for the last time.
We are now preparing to part from ASFM. Many are already looking forward to their Eurotrip and share those experiences with friends. The next family vacation. Preparing to make our class schedules. Searching for roommates and activities for those studying abroad next year. We aren’t quite capable of grasping that our lives will change forever once we depart from this building, that has been a huge part of our academic and social lives. Our minds might be elsewhere but our bodies are here, tied to this school that has opened for us doors of possibilities.
As cliché as it might sound, this year truly went flying past us. It seems only yesterday I was taking a picture with the polaroid on the senior frame which read “Last First Day of School” with my friends. College apps, the first edition of El Ciento-Siete, receiving acceptance (as well as rejection) letters, and yet never did I truly feel like I was graduating until this very moment.
It is because of this which I have been, like most seniors probably are, reliving my memories in this school: putting a black t-shirt on before entering the Black Box, singing “Drops of Jupiter” in 6th grade choir, having a generation sleepover inside the gym, carrying Ms. Belden’s shopping bags in Washington for setting off a stink bomb, and the many other experiences we have come to have through our time at school.
I am grateful when I come to reflect my time in ASFM. Thankful for the memories, opportunities, and friendships. But our time has come to move forward. This school has laid the groundwork for our future lives. We must embrace what's to come, but never forget where we came from.
