Elections and a Changing Tide

Ah, elections! We seem to have one every once in a while, yet they never cease to disappoint us. How can we not love ‘em though?

Elections have lied to us so much that they may very well be regarded as one big joke, and such a joke may crack us up for a good laugh, but they ought to be changed, for they have left people and society as a whole, discouraged and numb.

Amidst the now usual skepticism of our beloved elections, people in our school (and in our nation) have lost track of what is truly important in any given campaign: The appeal to change.

If I had a penny for every time I heard someone talk about student council for what it does, and not for what it doesn’t, I’d still be broke because I rarely participate in a conversation regarding student council without hearing somebody ask: And what has student council done this year?

The student body seems to be eager for change in its government, and as the frontrunner of change in this campaign this makes me, and the whole Red team immensely proud.

The situation is the following: On one hand you can choose to follow the path of monotonous continuity. The possibility of a student government that is as impotent as a 90 year old man dealing with chronic erectile dysfunction. On the other hand you have change. Change that is led by a Red eagle, perched atop a sun clock of the same color, waiting. A spirited and fertile movement, Red is not a sailor in the ocean trying to find the direction of the wind in the swells of the waves, but a lone fisherman that stares fixedly into the nightly moon, which in turn, sets the tone of the tide.
