Thirsty for Orange Juice

Experience is not a burden. Ever since the comparison between myself and the nation’s historically authoritarian political party was drawn, what I believed to be my clear advantage, became my worst trait.

Even before Grey was announced as student council winner, our team was already cursed with a name we seldom felt we deserved. We were called the PRI.

Once I became VP I was bombarded by my classmates and friends who questioned whether or not I’d run for office as my predecessors have done. The answer now is a clear yes.

While some suppose I am merely following a trend, the reasons for my involvement in student council go beyond a set norm. There is a gift, a talent of sorts, in all of us, and I believe high school is the perfect place to find and nourish the essence of our adolescent lives.

High school, four short years of our even shorter lives, gives students access to do a great many things, but we are not exploiting this potential to the maximum capacity.

Again, experience is not a burden, and I repeat this only to emphasize how being vice president has opened my eyes to the desires of the people. I’ve taken in all compliments, criticisms and am eager to work side by side with all students to exhaust the limits of our high school careers.

If there is one thing I’ve learned about ASFM students this past year, is that we are all energetic and passionate human beings. There was passion in the Addams Family musical, in the Ira’s epic chants, the creators of Meatless Mondays, the business moguls, the athletes and the rocket launchers. There is passion at ASFM, but this passion is still compressed, and we must squeeze it out.
