Conquering Houston

The men’s ASFM Elite is the first athletic team in school history to win a tournament outside of Mexico.

The soccer team travelled to Houston from November 21 to 26 as part of the Copa Rayados hosted by the Club de Monterrey FC. The Eagles were crowned champions of the Silver Division after defeating FC Union Jerez 2-0.

The players recounted the event in their own words:

Isaac Vega (Soccer Team Captain):

“Besides winning the tournament, I enjoyed that we learned many things, especially decision making. Also, the bond outside the playing fields.”

Fernando Pozas (Goalkeeper):

“I’m proud of the effort all of my teammates placed during the tournament. It was our first time playing 90 minute games, and we were able to adjust our game plan to have the best chance of succeeding.”

Salvador Canales (10th Grade Student):

“We are really proud that the school was able to support us at an international tournament for the first time in ASFM history.”

Julián Aguilar (ASFM Elite Coach):

“I was really impressed with the whole team during the competition. Their leadership, effort, teamwork, and determination was something really special to me.”
