Red Card To Cancer

ASFM alumni Baby and Bibi López may have lost their battle to cancer, but their friends are keeping their legacy alive with the sixth edition of the soccer tournament Score for a Cure.

“The purpose is to honor both of our friends, the two were sisters who sadly passed away,” Evy Padilla, founder and current president of the event explained. “Our goal is to bring them back to life with this tournament, and support kids with cancer.” Padilla  added that it makes her happy to watch the sister’s parents enjoy the tournament each year.

What started as a simple summer competition for girls in 2012, is now a friendly contest for boys and girls. Best of all, the money earned will be donated to Alianza Anticáncer Infantil, an organization that supports low-income kids with cancer.

In their debut tourney, the group collected 30 thousands pesos. This year, they estimate around 120 thousand in proceeds. The contest gained popularity throughout the years, and is looking to grow even more.
